Sermon Notes

When we spend a lifetime on this earth we leave a legacy. This is how we live on after we go home.

How do you want to be remembered?

2 Timothy 1:1-2 “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus, To Timothy, my beloved son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul was writing to Timothy in this passage, and he calls Timothy his son.  This is what we refer to as a spiritual child.  These children are the ones we mentor in the faith and teach them to follow Christ.  Do you have any Spiritual children?

2 Timothy 1:3-4 “I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience c]the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy.

Our spiritual children, just like our natural children, need our prayers.  Do you pray for those you have mentored in the faith?  Hopefully some of your spiritual children are also your natural children.  Are you full of Joy when you think of these children?

2 Timothy 1:5 “For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

Who did Paul credit for Timothy’s strong faith?  Eunice his mother and Lois his grandmother.  This is their legacy in Timothy.

For many of us time is drawing short.  How does your legacy look?  Will others see your life in your children both natural and spiritual?  Is the legacy that you leave going to be one of love?
It is not too late to leave a legacy of love, which is the love of Christ, for those you leave behind.
